Afri Patron Archbishop Desmond Tutu

Archbishop Desmond Tutu, together with his wife Leah, are Afri’s international patrons. Desmond Tutu first visited Ireland at Afri’s invitation in 1984, returned in 1991 to lead the Famine Walk, and was also the guest speaker at an event to mark Afri’s 30th anniversary in 2005.

Desmond Tutu wrote the following inspiring testimonial on the 35th anniversay of Afri (click for larger version):

I want to express my solidarity with, and support for, Afri on the occasion of their 35th anniversary. I am proud that Leah and I have been Afri’s International Patrons for more than 25 years.
